A question we are often asked is what it’s like to be high off Kratom? Before we dive into our answer, it’s important to clarify that the majority of users aren’t consuming Kratom as a recreational drug to “get high” in the traditional sense of the word.
Rather, Kratom users are turning to the plant as a safe, natural alternative to many pharmaceutical medications. These are everyday folks looking to combat everyday aches and pains, low energy, or an unbalanced mood.
With that said, here’s some of the top 5 things you may feel when you consume Kratom.
One of the more common reports you’ll hear Kratom users rave about is the wave of euphoria they experience after taking the herb. Although Kratom isn’t an opiate itself, it behaves similar to such substance, in that it causes the brain to release dopamine, which are the feel good, pleasure/reward chemicals. As dopamine releases in the brain, a wave of happiness, joy, and euphoria are often experienced by the user. This is one of the reasons many turn to Kratom as natural ally to help manage their mood.
Practically everyone throughout the world turns to various tools to help relax at the end of a long work day – whether that be a glass or two of wine, listening to your favorite album, or simply watching their favorite show on Netflix. In our opinion, Kratom is one of the best ways to achieve this very goal, as feelings of relaxation are the most common benefits Kratom users report. Within 30 – 60 minutes of sipping on a drink like Kratom tea, you’ll find yourself sinking in deep state of calm: muscles begin to relax, pains eases, and worries once dominating your mind begin to fall away.
One of the more surprising effects of a Kratom high is a sense of sociability, as this typically goes hand-in-hand with feelings of euphoria and relaxation. After you take Kratom, you’ll notice your mood begin to brighten, and as this occurs you’ll find yourself more chatty to those around you.
Many users are beginning to opt for Kratom, rather than alcohol at social gatherings, as it gets them just as social, but without the crippling hangover the next day. In fact, there is a growing number of bars and lounges throughout the United States that are beginning to serve Kratom to their customers. Here’s one of these Kratom bars in Brooklyn, New York:
4. Pain Relief
Opioids are second-to-none with their ability to relieve pain, as they’re able to slow the transfer of pain signals from one neuron to the next throughout the body. The major downside of opioids such as Hydrocodone or Oxycodone is how addictive they can be. According to the Center for Disease Control, the amount of prescription opioids sold to pharmacies, hospitals, and doctors quadrupled from 2000 to 2015.1 2, yet there had not been an overall change in the amount of pain that Americans reported.3 4Sadly, the number of opioid-related deaths also increased during this period.5
Unwilling to depend on pharmaceutical drugs, millions of people throughout the world are turning to natural alternatives such as Kratom to combat everyday aches and pains. Kratom is a partial opioid agonist, meaning it’s able to hit the same opioid receptors in the body without many of the downsides such as having addictive qualities. Within an hour of consuming a Kratom strain such as Bali Red (which is known for its pain relieving qualities), you’ll find pain once pestering you throughout the day begin to slowly fade away.

Know what I'd be doing today if I didn't have my #kratom tea? NOTHING. Laying in bed, in pain. Instead, I am hanging laundry, doing dishes, sweeping, mopping and chasing two toddlers! #iamkratom #kratomchangeslives #kratomsaveslives

5. Increased Energy
Kratom is one of the more interesting herbal supplements in that it can act as a swiss army knife with its wide range of applications. At certain doses and strains, Kratom can act as sedative and pain reliever. Yet other strains such as White are known to actually increase energy and focus. In fact, many people are choosing Kratom in the morning over coffee, as it gives the same energy lifting effects without the downside such as the coffee jitters.
In Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand and Malaysia where Kratom has been traditionally used for centuries, laborers working demanding, labor-intensive jobs would chew on Kratom leaves to increase their energy and stamina.
After taking Kratom, you might notice you’re focus increase, your ability to think on your feet quickened, and generally more able to shoulder the demands of your workday.
I'm outside blowing leaves! I'm cleaning up the outside and the inside of the house. I'm able to play with my German shepherd dog. I'm getting ready to take my 12 year old to Burger king. NONE of this could be done without Kratom. I'd be in bed depressed and in pain. #iamkratom https://t.co/4wxUBesffv
